Qualis Greentech Training Academy: Strategic Launch Overview

The Qualis Greentech Training Academy is a dedicated renewables training facility located in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. It has been established to provide accredited, hands-on training for engineers entering the low-carbon energy market.

1. Partnership & Vision

The academy is a collaborative venture between two industry specialists:

  • Qualis Energy: Brings expertise in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP), solar energy, and MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) compliance.

  • Gasgain: Provides a long-standing foundation in professional training and assessment, having served the gas engineering community for over two decades.

The Mission: To support Gas and Oil engineers in "making the switch" to renewables, ensuring the UK workforce is equipped to meet Net Zero targets.

2. Core Training & Accreditation

The academy will offer LCL Awards accredited courses and manufacturer-specific training. Key areas of focus include:

Renewable Technologies

  • Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP): Installation, commissioning, and maintenance.

  • Air Conditioning (AC): Design and installation of air conditioning systems.

  • Air To Air (A2A): Design and installation of air to air systems including A2A cylinders.

Supporting Qualifications

  • WRAS Water Regulations: Essential for plumbers moving into heat pump technology.

  • Unvented Hot Water Systems (G3): A prerequisite for many renewable heating installations.

  • F-Gas Certification: For engineers handling refrigerants within heat pump and air conditioning systems.

3. The MCS Umbrella Scheme

A unique feature of the Qualis Greentech launch is the MCS Umbrella Scheme. This program is designed to support newly trained engineers and experienced HVAC and gas engineers who are not yet or may never be fully MCS-accredited themselves.

  • How it works: Qualis Energy (an MCS-approved business) provides the compliance framework and sign-off for installations.

  • Benefit: This allows engineers to offer their customers access to government incentives like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) while they work toward their own independent accreditation.

  • Technologies: Air source heat pumps and air to air heat pumps when they become live on the scheme.

4. Manufacturer Partnerships

The academy hosts specific training days with leading global brands to ensure engineers are familiar with the latest hardware.

5. Location & Facilities

The academy is housed in a newly refurbished separate wing of the existing Gasgain site in Mansfield. The facility features:

  • Dedicated renewable workshops.

  • Live testing rigs for heat pumps and AC components.

  • Classroom spaces for theoretical assessments.

  • Worksop for brazing, flaring and copper work.
