RESIDENTIAL SMART CONTROLS
SMART CONTROLS
We only install start controls allowing you to view your system online, in most cases on an app.
Allowing you to work with your renewable systems.
Smart Controls
Integrating these specific smart controls creates a "smart energy ecosystem" where your heating, hot water, and solar generation communicate to minimize grid reliance.
1. Solar PV Optimization (SolarEdge)
SolarEdge goes beyond standard inverters by managing energy at the panel level and directing surplus power to specific loads.
-
SolarEdge Hot Water Controller: This is a wireless solar diverter. When your house is powered and your battery (if you have one) is full, it automatically diverts excess DC solar energy to your immersion heater.
-
Benefit: It effectively turns your hot water cylinder into a "thermal battery," storing free energy as heat.
-
-
SolarEdge Home Backup Interface (Off-Grid Unit): This allows your home to disconnect from the grid during a power cut.
-
Key Feature: Unlike standard systems that shut down during a blackout for safety, this unit allows your solar panels and battery to keep the "lights on" and even continue charging while the grid is down.
-
2. Dedicated Solar Diversion (Solar iBoost)
The Solar iBoost+ is a standalone alternative to the SolarEdge water unit.
-
How it works: It uses a clamp on your main electricity meter to detect when you are exporting power to the grid. It then "diverts" that power to your immersion heater.
-
Advantage: It is brand-agnostic (works with any solar inverter) and is often the most cost-effective way to get free hot water from solar.
3. Heating Intelligence (Homely & Weather Optimization)
While SolarEdge manages the source of energy, Homely manages the demand.
-
Homely: Specifically designed for Heat Pumps. It is a smart controller that learns your home’s "thermal fingerprint" (how fast it leaks heat).
-
Weather Optimization: Homely monitors local weather forecasts. If it knows a sunny afternoon is coming, it will tell the heat pump to "idle" in the morning, knowing the solar panels will provide free heat later.
-
Dynamic Tariffs: It integrates with tariffs like Octopus Agile, running your heating or charging your hot water cylinder during the cheapest hours of the day or night.
How They Integrate Together
In a "perfect" setup:
-
Weather Optimization (via Homely) predicts a cold but sunny day.
-
The Heat Pump runs early using cheap overnight grid power.
-
As the sun rises, SolarEdge powers the home.
-
Once the house is warm, the SolarEdge Hot Water Unit or iBoost uses the final surplus to max out the temperature in your cylinder.
