RESIDENTIAL UNDERFLOOR HEATING

UNDER FLOOR HEATING

Under floor heating is the perfect combination to accompany your air source heat pump.

We also install systems for all other heat sources.

RADIATORS

Replacing old dirty radiators with new or upgrading to meet your heat loss requirement when upgrading to a air source heat pump.

HEAT PUMPS

Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) transfers heat from the outside air to the water in your central heating system.

Working down to -25°C.

Underfloor Heating

Underfloor heating (UFH) turns your entire floor into a giant, low-temperature radiator. It is more efficient than standard radiators because it uses radiant heat, which warms objects and people directly rather than just the air.

1. The Two Main Types

2. Efficiency & Heat Sources

Water-based UFH is the perfect partner for low-temperature heating:

  • Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP): UFH only needs water at , whereas radiators need . This allows a heat pump to operate at its maximum efficiency (COP).

  • Condensing Gas Boilers: Modern boilers are more efficient when returning water is cool, which UFH naturally provides.

3. Design & Floor Finishes

The "thermal conductivity" of your flooring determines how fast the room warms up:

  • Best: Tile, Stone, or Polished Concrete (fastest heat transfer).

  • Good: Engineered Wood or "LVT" (Luxury Vinyl Tile) like Amtico/Karndean.

  • Challenging: Thick carpets with heavy underlay (acts as an insulator, blocking heat).

4. Smart Control Integration

Standard UFH is "slow-acting" (it takes time to heat up and cool down). Smart controls like Homely, Tado, or Heatmiser Neo are essential because:

  • Self-Learning: They learn how long your specific floor takes to warm up and start the system early.

  • Zoning: You can set different temperatures for the kitchen, lounge, and bedrooms independently.

  • Weather Compensation: They adjust the floor temperature based on the outside forecast.

5. Estimated Costs (UK 2026)

  • New Build (Water): £2,500 – £4,500 for a typical ground floor (60–80 m2).

  • Retrofit (Water - Low Profile): £4,000 – £7,000 (uses specialized thin panels like Nu-Heat LoPro).

  • Bathroom (Electric): £400 – £800 including digital thermostat.
